Exercise Classes

WCHC: 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month from 10-12 in conference room. The class is a 2 part class so patients need to come to both.
  • Put in a PT/OT INT referral and indicate that it is for the prenatal exercise group.
  • Refer by the end of their first trimester/beginning of 2nd so that they can get the maximum benefit out of the class.

They have a brief individual PT evaluation and then they learn safe body mechanics, pelvic floor exercises, core exercises and stretches. They also get information to supplement their other classes such as how to prepare their bodies for labor/delivery. If they need further therapy after the 2 group sessions then we can provide that as well.
Patients receive handouts in English/Spanish and an exercise DVD. The class is taught in English with some limited Spanish, but we request that if they are Spanish speakers only that they bring someone with them to help translate.

This group is wonderful for all prenatal patients - especially those with complaints of low back pain, pelvis/SI/Hip pain, urinary or stool incontinence, history of complicated labor/delivery in past, history of poor mobility.
Attached are some flyers - please call if you have any questions. My number is below or you can call Vanessa or May directly at WCHC PT clinic 510-231-9525

Maternity brace/belts

  • If you think the patient needs a belt you can indicate that on the referral and we will evaluate the patient to see if they really need it. Please do not send patients to PT just to get a belt. They really need to be referred for PT evaluation so they can learn about safe exercise in addition to the belt if it's needed.
